K1 is my only kid in public school.
I just got a letter inviting K1 to participate in the Midwest Academic Talent Search. This is a program put on through Northwestern University. K1 will have the option of taking the ACT or SAT (our choice) a few years early. There's also the potential for K1 to attend classes at Northwestern over the summer, as well as individualized scoring feedback. Once D and I have a chance to talk to K1 about this, we'll figure out the details and financing.
What prompted the invitation was K1 scoring above the 95th percentile on standardized testing.
So far, I haven't done a whole lot of research in to this program. But after a cursory glance online, I have discovered it's not simply an ego booster that any kid/parent can achieve by paying the necessary fees.
It's nice to have outside, objective reassurance that I did good. ;o)
